Walking has literally changed my life. Let me tell you a little story…
When I was 16 years old, I came home from school one day in a very bad mood. Don’t ask me why, I can’t remember … maybe it was a bad grade, a mean teacher, a boy or … maybe it was nothing (I was 16 after all).
My dad took one look at me and said “go for a walk, and then we’ll talk.”
So, like always, I followed his advice. What I remember most about that walk is the way my entire mood had shifted by the time I walked back in my house. It was like a cloud lifted and my energy returned.
When I came home smiling, my dad chuckled and asked me if I still had anything I wanted to talk about. I don’t recall exaclty what I said, but I’m sure it was something along the lines of “nope, I’m good.”

I learned that I had the ability to take action and change how I felt. And that was extremely empowering.
Fast-forward to when I went to college and discovered exactly what the “Freshman 15” was. And then some … The truth is that I gained a lot of weight.
Again, I turned to walking. Every day, I walked the University of Maryland’s campus, and while I didn’t transform overnight, I noticed I was getting stronger, healthier, and happier. And my eating habits improved right along with my mood.
After 6 months, I had returned to my body.

I learned that walking can be a gateway to the habits I need to lose weight.
Years later, when my kids were young and the stress was high, I invited friends to walk with me.
What happened after was magical. We became closer, we had deeper, more meaningful conversations, we all felt less lonely and even my friends picked up the habit of walking!

Then one day in the spring of 2019, I was walking with my husband Eric as we often do, and he said “you know, there might be something to this walking thing.”
